How to Reduce Browser Fingerprinting

Reduce fingerprint exposure with built-in protections, permission reviews and repeatable tests. Understand randomization, compatibility and anonymity limits.

Identify which exposure you want to reduce

Hiding a public IP, blocking third-party cookies and limiting graphics information are different goals. Record a baseline with the relevant tests, then adjust settings for particular signals. A single overall score cannot explain which setting made a difference.

Start with built-in protections

Review tracking protection and site permissions, remove extensions you do not need and use official update channels. Browsers apply different restrictions. An option with a similar privacy label does not necessarily have the same effect across browsers.

Do not judge protection only by changing hashes

A different hash on every run may reflect randomization while other stable signals remain observable. Conversely, a stable, common output can result from standardization. One test cannot measure how rare that output is across a population.

Check compatibility and keep a record

After changing settings, test everyday logins, video calls and maps. Repeat checks at the same window size and record the browser version. If a site breaks, revert settings individually to identify the cause instead of installing multiple overlapping extensions at once.
